I wanted to surprise my wife for our anniversary with a fun AI-enhanced video of our honeymoon. We had almost zero video of our trip, and lots of vacation photos of the sights, the places, and oh yes, even our food. But there were only a few precious images of us. The term 'selfie' had not even come into existence yet. Smartphones belonged only to the tech-savvy and the well-to-do. Way back in 2000 or so, I had purchased an avant-garde Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P1 digital camera. It boasted 3 grainy megapixels and allowed you to save something like 500 shots on a memory card. With the help of AI, I brought our portraits from that trip to life, snapped them into focus where possible, and added a little motion. It feels real, and we're thankful to have recaptured the moments nearly lost.
This AI video is older work that showcases how far the technology has advanced in just the short time since I began this project. When I started generating AI images and video to bring my third novel to life as a film, back in 2023, Midjourney had few of its current tools and styles. The interface had not yet been moved to the browser and made user-friendly. It was a struggle to create the images, and only a few poor-quality AI video generators were available. It's still a valuable retrospective for comparison.
